Chelsea Crowned Champions of Europe
Havertz's Goal Seals Second Champions League Triumph
30 May 2021
Chelsea Football Club were crowned European champions for the second time after Kai Havertz's first-half goal secured a 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday.
The German forward, who joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, scored the only goal of the game in the 42nd minute, latching onto a through ball from Mason Mount and finishing coolly past Ederson.
Chelsea held on to their lead in the second half, with goalkeeper Edouard Mendy making a number of important saves to deny Manchester City.
The victory was Chelsea's second Champions League title, following their triumph in 2012. It was also manager Thomas Tuchel's first major trophy with the club, after he replaced Frank Lampard in January.
For Manchester City, it was a disappointing end to the season. The Premier League champions had been hoping to win their first Champions League title, but they were ultimately outplayed by Chelsea.
